I think it depends on the business model one adopts, along with the amount of resources spent on developing and maintaining it.
2DO APP REDDIT UPDATE
Many developers also charge their customers a second time just after a year or two of having an update out. It's more than usable without the pro features :) You're most welcome to download and use the app and not buy into the pro upgrade, as you don't have to buy it anyway. All apps are indispensable and things change all the time. Any product that lasts more than a couple of years, I argue, has proven it's worth.
We spend hundreds of times more cash on physical products that are then abandoned or left to rot and rust. In this time and era, especially the digital era, nothing is permanent. The past 8 years of free support with 2Do should say something about my ethics :) You'd be surprised to learn many 'larger' companies with tens of people working on similar apps have either abandoned their product or stopped updating it entirely. Primarily because I strive to make an app I love and want people to love. However the major update came out as a free update for all. I suppose if there was a one year gap and I ended up asking people to pay, that would be a source of concern. I'm no Microsoft to have the kind of press and publicity they get for coughing and sneezing, so here I am, asking the community for good old fashioned word of mouth. I'm not here to suggest everyone storm into the store and download it, but given it's been made free to download, I'd appreciate if you would check it out, let others know and if you think it comes across as a nice / interesting app, please share the link with others.

Just as I've had the policy on iOS / Mac, the idea was to create a free update (in spite of spending countless hours, days, months in addition to non-stop money poured into its development) in order to appreciate the handful of users its already got on Android (compared to its competition that markets free software but charges 10x more for offering 10x less features). It's been highly rated and award on iOS and Mac in the past several times (by Apple, Macstories, Gizmodo and Cult of Mac to name a few) primarily for its simplicity, in spite of all the power that comes jam packed with it.Īlthough the story of 2Do coming to Android, then stalling for a few years before making a come back this year is a long one, suffice to say it's been a constant struggle. I wanted to share with everyone that 2Do's much awaited update has finally arrived on Android. I'm the developer of 2Do (iOS / Mac / Android).
